A mini quilt

It’s been a long time since i’ve updated the blog… life has been a tiny bit crazy since the girls arrival and it’s hard to find time with enough minutes spare to do some craft.

Anyway, I managed to make this little mini quilt based on a similar theme to the girls quilts for the Special Care Nursery at the hospital where the girls were born.

The mini quilt

I’m currently working on yet another quilt which is just left over scraps of fabric to be used as a rug for outside for the kids to play on and then also some cushions/quilts for the lounge. My list of projects is never ending… and as soon as I finish something I have another 10 things on my to do list.

My 2 little girls

Here’s a couple of pic I took of my girls last week when they were 3 weeks old. I bought the cocoon from etsy from a wonderful store/seller Fuzzy Lumpkin Crochet. Check out her stuff, it’s beautiful and she’s a wonderful and easy to deal with seller! http://www.etsy.com/shop/FuzzyLumpkinCrochet

A new birdy thing to try

I’ve just found a link to this tutorial via one of my friends on facebook which I think is GORGEOUS!! It’s a little taggie blanket in the shape of an owl that is just super cute.

Here’s the link if anyone is interested. http://lubirdbaby.blogspot.com/2009/11/owl-ribbon-tag-baby-toy.html

Now I just need to find the time with 4 week old newborn twins and a 2 year old running around! :)

Little Letter Gifts

Well after doing the initials for my girls room, I thought it might be nice to do some as gifts for friends that I wanted to thank and also as presents. Here are some that i’ve done recently.

The girls room… a work in progress…

Well I probably shouldn’t say that their room is a work in progress, especially considering they will arrive within a matter of days/weeks. I have been very slack however with updating my blog as i’ve had so many other things consuming my time, like running after a very active 23 month old, fortnightly 3 day stints in hospital for steroid injections, numerous doctors appointments/scans, trying to get some presents made for thank you gifts for friends etc etc the list goes on.

So… FINALLY i’ve got my bum into gear this afternoon and taken some photographs of their room and how it is shaping up. I’ve finally taken pics of the quilts which I finished about a month ago, all on the beds and made up and also some initials that i’ve made for their walls which i’ve done with mdf letters with scrapbook paper and embellishments.

I’ve still got 1 applique artwork for the wall to finish… but i’m having a hard time trying to get it right… hopefully something will come to me in the next couple of days after I finish these gifts.

Anyway, here’s some photographs finally to share.

Wine Tote

Well tonight I decided to make part of a thank you gift for some dear friends of ours. We are planning on giving them a bottle of wine as part of the gift and I thought what better way to give it them than in a handmade Insulated Wine Tote. I always love giving handmade gifts where I can, there’s just something about giving something handmade and also more importantly something that is reuseable.

I got the idea from the Sewing Republic which is a Bernina website with HEAPS of patterns/tutorials. The pattern Wine Tote
was really quite simple and didn’t take a great deal of time to complete.

The pattern calls for the wine tote to be insulated (I suppose to help keep the vino chilled when transporting ;-) ) and I was able to use some left over bamboo quilting batting that I had from making the girls quilts.

I’ve had this pattern for a while, so thought in between making everything for the girls room it’d be nice to do something a bit different just for a different challenge…

Anyway, here’s a pic of how it turned out. The actual pattern had the reverse side of the handle on the inside but I preferred it on the outer to give that contrast!

The 2nd Fabric Artwork for the girls room.

Well i’ve finished and am happy with a 2nd artwork now for the girls room. I’ve actually made 3 artworks, but i’m not happy with the yellow one that i’ve done. The colours just don’t seem right on it and i’m not sure of the design of the birds either, so think i’ll have to put that one back to the drawing board.

However, I have finished the lavender one, which i’m quite happy with… so of course here to share a pic ;-)

This one is my love birds. You can’t really see the stitching detail on the photograph, but each bird has 2 colours of stitching, the one on the left is aqua & yellow, the right has pink & yellow, with one tail on each bird of the constrasting stitch (if that makes sense). Then around the heart there are 3 layers of stitching, yellow, aqua & pink.
